How Volunteers Help
There's always something to do at the Salvage Barn. Our volunteers can help unload donations, measure trim and flooring, clean up hardware, take out nails, paint wood, sort out merchandise, organize the Tool Library, create promotional materials, write press releases, and more.
Volunteers can also help salvage. Usually, salvage dates are organized for a weekend, and all members are covered by the Friends of Historic Preservation blanket liability insurance policy. Experienced members work alongside enthusiastic newcomers to ensure that the materials are removed properly.
Individuals and groups are always welcome to help out.
In the past, University of Iowa students taking courses in law, historic preservation, sustainability and non-profit management have volunteered at the Salvage Barn for a hands-on learning experience.
If you'd like to volunteer, or if you'd like to be notified about future salvages, please fill out the sign-up form below. Send it to us in an email or fill it out at the Salvage Barn during normal business hours.
