ABOUT
The Salvage Barn, operated by Friends of Historic Preservation, is a warehouse specializing in historic architectural building materials that are 50 years and older. All inventory is donated, most of which is salvaged by our team of volunteers from homes slated for demolition in the Johnson County area.
The Salvage Barn maintains a Tool Library, accessible to FHP members, and offers workshops throughout the year that are free and open to the public.
The Salvage Barn has been part of Iowa City's landfill diversion program for over 20 years. In 2013, it diverted more than 80 tons of valuable and reusable material from the landfill!
